Tape and Boxes

Alright. The movers are still here but unless they manage to move any slower than they already are, I should be out of here within the hour. Very happy.

Now on to DC and Seattle.

(Also, very hungry. I'm not sure I've ever actually been this hungry. Should have ordered pizza last night... )

More Productive than Planned

Ah. My twenty-hour marathon stretch of procrastination is about to end. My original plan for the weekend (well, plan B, but plan A was the same theme, albeit slightly more procrastination proof) was to get up and get out of here by before dawn on Saturday, drive the cats to DC, drop kitties off at friend's house, go to Kim's bridal shower/lingerie party with same friend, hang out with kitties, drive back.

Obviously that was ridiculous since the reason I was driving back was to do work on Sunday. Work that, compared to stabbing myself repeatedly with a mechanical pencil, would cause me to choose the pencil. Sure, the drive through really bad weather Saturday morning (which was suppose to be "light rain showers") helped me decide to stay over Saturday night ("I would hate to catch it both ways in the same day"), but I would have found another excuse just at viable if that one hadn't been as handy.

The new plan was to return by noon-ish Sunday and get to work. Here the the things I accomplished instead:

1. Attended the annual RPI televised hockey game with friends Saturday night. Enjoyed many tall beers.

2. Caught up on Absolutely Fabulous and Curb Your Enthusiasm back at friend's house.

3. Did actually get up early and get out of the house by 8:30 Sunday morning. Hungover.

4. Managed to get back to Pittsburgh just after noon sans speeding ticket.

5. Bought new pair of jeans.

6. Grocery shopped. (Don't be impressed. Purchased: strawberries, bananas, soy milk, and three chocolate chip cookies.)

7. Got car washed.

8. Cleaned all stray trash from car. Cleaned interior of car with Armoral purchased along with jeans.

9. Took three-hour nap (flagrant procrastination).

10. Cleaned card table off, inspired to do work at home since I had brought it to DC and thus had it with me).

11. Ordered pizza.

12. Will start work in less than ten minutes. It is 7:58 p.m.

It's been a good day. Too bad I won't get as much work done, but at this point it just doesn't really matter.

Note on the jeans:
Target. Yep. I went in to get Armoral, upholstery cleaner (because obviously I dropped chocolate in my seat while driving a few weeks ago), and an opaque storage container. I found the first two items, third became tricky and I gave up.

I remembered I needed a new pair of jeans. Every one of my current jeans are either very poor fitting, are cuttoffs, or both. None of them are acceptable for me to wear next month since I have to look presentable in my off-time in Seattle (standards for work). This was a detail I realized two weeks ago and was not looking foreword to resolving. I hate jeans shopping, which is pretty much why I haven't done it properly since high school. None of them fit, they are all overpriced, and I can't stand that stupid fading they are doing now withe the pre-determined creases and the faded ass/thigh combo. What the fuck is that? I now know how my mother didn't understand acid-washed jeans.

I had inspiration though in my two recent trips to DC. Each of my friends had on jeans that were just fabulous. They looked good in them and they (a) weren't so very low cut that your ass-crack popped out as soon as you sat down and (b) didn't have really stupid fade patterns on the ass and thighs. Seeing that jeans are out that I actually like, my only remaining hurdle was to acquire a pair without having to (a) pay more than thirty dollars and (b) try on more than five pairs.

Yeah. So I'm about to check out of Target with my two items when I swing through the women's section of Target. I saw they had all the new spring stuff out and about six racks of clearance items. Bingo. One rack of jeans. Double bingo. The jeans are marked down to $14.99 and look exactly like what I'm looking for. Uber-bingo. One last step: fitting room.

First pair on: winner. I try on the other two pair because this was all going too well to actually be jeans shopping. Fist pair still won. Well holy shit. Yeah, the waist is a little big, but apparently no one make jeans with a waist-to-ass ratio of mine. And, yes, I would prefer them to be a quarter inch shorter, but at least they don't drag the ground. I can let the fashion industry win on this one. Extra goodie: they are stretchy _and_ not tight. Just right. Hurray for me.

The drive to and back from DC was splendid. Yes, the weather slowed me down to about 30 or 40 miles per hour for the first half of the drive up on Saturday, but the rest of it was purely beautiful. Sunny and snow-covered. Off and on for about 30 miles in Maryland the trees were ice-covered. With the sun shining through them, they looked like they'd been dipped in glass. Breathtaking.

I'm looking forward to getting back with friends. My time up here has been good in making me realize how good my friends are and how quickly time slips by. I'm also looking forward to having alternating three day weekends. One day to get things done, one day for fun weekend things, and one day to take it easy. No more one-day weekends. Hurray for normal work-weeks.

And, hurray for friends.
